Comfort eating - but why?

Comfort Eating: There's always a reason!

When Rosie came to Central Hypnotherapy in December 2013 it was to address her eating habits and especially her emotional eating, which she assumed was just a negative habit pattern.  Although it does become habitual, comfort eating always has a cause and to get rid of it properly, we need to attend to this as well.

Your Subconscious mind is your Protector, and everything it does is intended - intended - to help.  Comfort eating is simply an attempt to distract you from what is really bothering you by giving you impulses to buy/eat something which is expected to be rewarding because it is 'a treat' or an indulgence.  If it is also fattening, the Subconscious won't know that until I explain it in the hypnotherapy process.  Weight and health issues are conscious concerns, which is why we speak of being "conscious of our weight" or "weight-conscious".

As it turned out, rejection and heartbreak were the causes in this case, but comfort eating can also be caused by much more minor issues like stress and boredom.  So I asked Rosie a few general questions about how life was going, and it quickly became clear that she hadn't got over her divorce.

Hypnotherapy for rapid change

Instead of addressing this with 12 sessions of counselling or CBT - which doesn't make much difference if it's an emotional issue, because it doesn't address the Subconscious mind at all - I did a single hypnotherapy session and this was the result, in Rosie's own words:

"Hi Chris, I wanted to give you some feedback on the hypnotherapy session I had with you just before Christmas.  I know you must see lots of people every week so I'll take a moment to remind you what we discussed: I'd started comfort eating since my divorce, which I thought was my main issue.  I wasn't expecting to discuss any of the details of my actual divorce with you, but I'm glad you asked me about it.  During the hypnotherapy I finally accepted that my ex-husband was not the amazing person I'd created in rose-tinted memory.  I have given up blaming myself for my divorce and I've stopped pining for a man that never existed.  He was not a nice man to me.

"I kept my married name after the divorce - a sign perhaps that I still hadn't fully let go and moved on.  I have a solicitor's appointment for next week and will be changing my name.  I don't need my ex-husband's surname.  In fact, since the hypnotherapy I've grown to dislike it.  I just want it gone! I can creat my own identity for myself and that's exactly what I intend to do.

"This is all a huge shift in mindset for me and goodness knows how long I'd have been stuck with it, trapped by it, had I not come to see you.  I have finally been liberated and can live my life and look forward to my future as me.

"Huge gratitude, Rosie 17.01.14"

Job done.  That's how fast hypnosis works because that's how fast the Subconscious works.  It just needed a bit of expert guidance, that's all!  So if you have any emotional baggage you'd like to ditch - or if you're just eating too much and would like to stop it immediately - just give me a call!  0161 474 8120 or call/text 07748 838 644.  Ask for Chris.
