How Does Hypnotherapy Work for Weight Loss?

Sunday, August 5th, 2012

Simple: both appetite and cravings are controlled by the brain. Although we ‘feel’ these sensations in the body, they are triggered by the Subconscious mind. Weight loss drugs try to interfere with the pathways of these hunger signals, but drugs are dangerous and have side effects. Hypnotherapy is the only way to get detailed messages to the Subconscious mind quickly and effectively, so we can get appetite reduced naturally and safely. We can also ask for cravings to be shut down, or transferred from one object (such as cake) to another object (such as strawberries or fruit generally).

When you go on a diet, you try to resist the urge to eat the fattening foods using willpower, which is hard to sustain over time. In hypnotherapy, we simply change what you feel like eating, and reduce the overall appetite. If that sounds much easier and more fun, that’s because it is!

The Hypno-Gastric Band

I do NOT offer this treatment, because it is gimmicky and unethical. It involves telling the Subconscious mind something which is not true, and I don’t believe hypnotherapists should ever do that. Also, because the Hypno-Gastric Band treatment is faddy, it is ridiculously expensive and no more effective than what I’ve been doing with hypnosis for over a decade!

How do I stop eating chocolate?

Monday, July 23rd, 2012

“How can I stop eating chocolate?” Here’s Jane’s reply to that!

Hi Chris,
Hope you are well?

I think I may have generated some more business for you! I was in a cafe in Lymm on Saturday and was talking to the owner (not sure of her name) about you and how I hadn’t eaten chocolate for 6-weeks etc. She was fascinated (as were all the other staff members) about what I was saying. She took down your details and said she would contact you this week. I remember her saying one of her weaknesses was wine.

Being Easter I decided to buy myself an Easter egg. I ate half, thoroughly enjoyed it, put the other half in the fridge for another evening. As I lay in bed that night thinking about the other half of the egg in the fridge, I thought I don’t actually want it, I enjoyed what I ate but I really don’t want any more so I brought the remainder into work for my colleague. Now, previously I would have eaten the whole egg in one sitting!!

I am not due to weigh myself until a week on Saturday (only weigh myself once a month) so I don’t know how much more weight I have lost but can definitely feel that I have.

Also, Carol and Fallon loved you, thought you were absolutely brilliant. They too are getting on great and losing weight.

Kind regards
Jane

Healthy Eating with Hypnotherapy

Wednesday, March 21st, 2012

Most diets or healthy eating plans require willpower to stick to, but hypnosis allows you to change without effort. It is the craving system that reminds us when to eat, and if there is a range of foods available, we get an impulse to choose this or that. Notice how that impulse often seems at odds with the new healthy eating regime? That’s because the new regime was a conscious intention but no-one told the Subconscious mind, which sends the impulses (or ‘desires’) that drive our actual behaviour.

During the hypnotherapy session I can explain the new healthy eating options to your Subconscious mind, which will then change what you feel like eating! Here’s a review of the results of such a session I received from Jane by email this very morning:

Hi Chris,

From visiting you on 24th Feb, I feel great, full of energy and I believe it has so much to do with not putting all that rubbish into my body. I haven’t at all been tempted by sweets, crisps, chocolate, cake, fizzy drinks. I have come across these items many times over the past 4 weeks but have just turned away from them. I have to say best money I have ever spent and I have done nothing but sing your praises hence my Sister and my best friend will be visiting you on Saturday. Hope you are keeping well.

Kind regards

Jane

Yes, two more people coming along this weekend already on the strength of that, and really, why wouldn’t you? Who wants to fight battles with themselves when it is not necessary at all? We can also eliminate comfort eating or snacking at the same time, and deal with any emotional triggers that cause overeating. Why not find out more by calling me (Chris) on:

The Urge to Eat

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

Where does the urge to eat come from? Doesn’t everyone assume it comes from the body? Certainly it feels as if it does!

In reality the brain sends impulses via the body, to make it seem as if there is a ‘bodily need’ to eat (or drink) this or that. Or indeed, to buy something to eat or drink. Now, if that urge wasn’t there, would you eat that?

No. There has to be motivation or there is no action, and what most people try to do is ignore the urge to eat, or resist it with willpower. What we do in hypnotherapy is shut that impulse down.

The Switch Alternative

We can also take the impulse to eat crisps or fast food, and transfer that to a different kind of food, like cereal or fruit. So instead of TRYING to make yourself eat differently, after the hypnotherapy you are eating what you want to eat, but what you want to eat has CHANGED!

If that sounds better than fighting battles with yourself, why not find out more? Call me (Chris) at Central Hypnotherapy on 0161-474 8120 (Office Hours) Mobile: 07748 838 644 (any time, including evenings & weekends) for more info or to book an appointment.

Weight Loss: Getting rid of Limiting Beliefs

Monday, November 29th, 2010

Hi Chris,

I am writing to thank you for your help.
I came to you with my weight issues, and although I still have a way
to go, I feel very positive that it’s no longer going to be a problem.
You also helped me with underlying problems which lead to my unhealthy
relationship with food.

By understanding why I used to comfort eat and want to eat the wrong
foods (and by telling the inner me!) I now feel strong, and I know I
have the ability to change. For a long time I just believed I was
always going to yoyo, and struggle to feel nice about my figure. But I
don’t feel that way anymore, I don’t feel the urge to starve/ binge,
but at the same time if I want to eat it I can, and that’s down to
your therapy.

I may come back to see you in the future, as I may need your help again.

K

When people are just dieting, they are using willpower to resist the urge to repeat compulsive habitual behaviour like comfort eating. That is notoriously hard to do, and the causes are not addressed at all. Negative beliefs and feelings remain. In hypnotherapy, we not only change the compulsive habitual behaviour directed by the Subconscious mind, we can also change feelings and beliefs from negative to positive – as you can see from K’s message of thanks above which came in yesterday.

Here are a few examples of common negative beliefs that are routinely eliminated here at Central Hypnotherapy:
“Well that’s all very well for her, but I bet it wouldn’t work for me…”
“I’ve tried everything, I don’t see why this should be any different…”
“This all sounds too good to be true…”
“If this really works, why isn’t everyone doing it?”

Actually, a lot of people ARE doing it! Weight loss is the No.1 reason for people coming here, and many of them are doing that because they know someone who has already been here. And when I tell them that over Christmas they will be eating exactly what they feel like eating and STILL lose weight over that period… is it any wonder they want to tell everyone else about it?

All testimonials and Thank You messages are reproduced with full written permission. So far, no-one has even hesitated about giving that permission, because they all want to help other people too. Well, when you find something that works..!

Off the Scale!

Monday, November 1st, 2010

Quite a lot of clients with food and weight issues tell me that they are sick to death of being obsessed about weighing themselves, calorie-counting and thinking about food all the time.  The Central Hypnotherapy approach to weight loss and food habits frees you from this, as this happy client found out during October:

“Hi Chris, just an update for you: I came to see you three weeks ago and I’m amazed by the results!  I can’t tell you how much weight I’ve lost as I don’t use my scales any more!  Immediately after the session I phoned my hubby and told him to buy a cooked chicken and salad (normally we would have a take out).  He brought these home with a trifle and blackforest gateau.  The sight of these made me heave!  I have never felt deprived, or had the urge to eat between meals – it’s brilliant!  Thank you very much for reprogramming my mind!”

Now, the truth is, I don’t re-programme minds!  The only changes that will be accepted in a hypnotherapy session are those which the client feels inclined to accept.  So it isn’t programming, it’s just me using hypnosis to explain the whole food and weight business to the Subconscious mind, because you cannot get that message across by yourself.  You cannot tell your own Subconscious mind anything in detail, no-one can.  So that’s where hypnotherapy comes in!  And just look at the results!

Just in case there are any cynics reading this, who are thinking to themselves: “You’ve just hypnotised her into thinking she’s losing weight, and told her not to weigh herself!”  No, no.  Read on!  And besides, I do tell people they can weigh themselves, as long as it’s only once a fortnight.

Why tell them that? Well, over the years I have found a huge difference in the results of the weight loss part of things – not the eating habits, just the weight loss part – between clients who stay off the scales most of the time, and those that weigh themselves repeatedly.  So I tell their Subconscious mind to forget about the scales, just maybe weigh yourself once a fortnight, and everything will work great.  And it does.

No willpower needed, no feeling deprived, no urge to snack or eat between meals… no obsessions with food or scales!  And real, lasting results.

Update from Angela!

Monday, July 19th, 2010

Got a text update from Angela this morning:

“Good morning, just been weighed, lost 8 pound ha ha ha regards Angela Mancini”

So: from just one session with me 11 days ago that’s one heavy drinking habit eliminated and 8lbs in weight lost already!  Full story below.

Angela is Alcohol Free

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

Angela popped in to see me here at Central Hypnotherapy for a session to quit drinking.  Not everyone who comes here about alcohol wants to stop completely and that’s fine because we can also cut back, but she wanted to get rid of the habit.  Now, some people will tell you that compulsive habitual drinking is an addiction – that regular heavy drinkers are ‘dependent’ or ‘can’t manage without it’ – for so it appears…

So anyway, Angela had just one session with me on the 8th of July, during which we had a chat about hypnotherapy, her particular drinking habit and the history of it for about an hour, then she put her feet up and did nothing for a bit whilst I explained a few things to the part of her brain which controls all habitual behaviour.  She also adopted exactly the right attitude to the whole procedure: quite happy for it to be successful and looking forward to her freedom and new healthy lifestyle. I too adopted the right attitude and tone for presenting such a case for change to the Subconscious mind, because if the therapist doesn’t get that right, nothing will change. I’m not going to elaborate because these are my specialities!  Trade secret.  Then off she went on her merry way.

On the 12th of July I got the following text message (full permission obtained to reproduce this here of course):

“Hi Chris it’s Angela, came to see u thurs with my drinking prob?  Well a miracle has happened and I haven’t touched a drop, my mind is as happy and clear as I could ever imagine, diet started today with excitement instead of dread ha ha thank u so much!  I know its early days but I feel very positive about my future.  I have passed ur number 2 a couple of people thank u once again, regards Angela”

A few days later I sent Angela a message asking if I could add the comments above to the testimonials on my website, because I never do that without permission, and I assured her I would change the name to ensure confidentiality.  This was her response (16th July):

“Hi Chris, I still haven’t touched a drop? I’m so refreshed and optimistic I can’t tell u, my diet is so easy as I’m not craving the alcohol, I count the days down normally whilst im dieting wishing for the end of the week so i can break the diet and have a drink, it just isnt there since seeing you, my target for a tiny treat is 28th August as im going to town with all my friends to watch the gay parade, wow that would be nearly 6 weeks since coming to you! Yes certainly you can pass my texts on, chris im not ashamed what ive done, was in a rut that i just carried on and on with, on a track to nowhere, whats done is done, the only thing i can say to anybody in the same situation is – what have u got to lose?? I want to come back just to get that feeling i had when i left your office again…FREEDOM.  I mean that from the bottom of my liver ha ha ha, you can use my name im proud that I had the courage to face my demon, regards, Angela Mancini, there you go my full name ha ha”

One happy bunny, I think you’ll agree.  Angela, I’m very proud of you too.

One session, folks.  That’s all it was.  It’s not an addiction, it’s a compulsive habit.  Now it’s gone.  And if it ever comes back, I’ll be happy to get rid of it again. Call or text me any time on 07748 838 644.  By the way, that’s the longest text message I ever got but I could read it over and over because what it really demonstrates beautifully is the difference between trying to quit anything the hard way – or diet – and what happens when you come to Central Hypnotherapy!  Why do it the hard way?

My name’s Chris, by the way.  Call me any time – you too could be feeling the way Angela does very soon. Or if you don’t want to quit drinking altogether but just want to cut down a bit, that’s okay as well – after all, that’s what we do with food in the weight loss sessions.  It’s entirely up to you!

Hypnotherapy for Real

Monday, July 12th, 2010

You know what really surprises people about hypnotherapy?  That you feel perfectly normal throughout the session!  Most new clients are expecting to be asleep, or at least to “feel hypnotised”, even if they’re not sure what that would be like.  What they do not expect is to feel absolutely normal and well aware of everything I am saying.

The second surprise is the results.  Think about it: we spend about an hour chatting about the issue, then you spend the rest of the session listening to me explaining things, whilst wondering why you feel perfectly normal.  It seems like nothing is happening at all.  You heard what I was saying and it was all stuff you knew already on a conscious level.  So it is not surprising that your conscious mind is not expecting anything to have changed.

Then you find that all desire to smoke has ceased.  Or the impulse to buy chocolate, gamble, get plastered or buy clothes you don’t need.  Or the phobia has gone, the anxiety, the emotional pain…

Where did all these feelings or impulses come from in the first place?  All generated by your Subconscious mind… which DID NOT know all those details until I explained them during the second part of the session, even though your conscious mind did!  By the way, human beings have no effective way of telling their own Subconscious minds anything in detail – that’s why an experienced hypnotherapist is a handy person to know.  But don’t expect hypnotherapy to be some strange experience you’ve never had before, because it’s really rather ordinary.  It’s the results that are exciting, not the experience itself! This is funny!

Friday, June 11th, 2010

Just stumbled on this old report about Lilly Allen’s success in losing weight with hypnotherapy, but I couldn’t believe the reported cost! Her therapist charged $600 an hour?  Who’d be rich and famous if it means you think it’s necessary to fork out that kind of money for weight loss success?  Fact is, any hypnotherapy weight loss specialist could help you achieve that!

If you would like to experience the same kind of success but at normal prices, and you live in the North West of England (UK), then give me (Chris) a call:

Office: 0161-474-8120 Monday-Friday 8.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m., or call/text 07748 838 644 any day, any time.

If you live elsewhere PLEASE ring around, don’t pay charges like that, it only encourages ‘em! Read on for testimonials – my clients got the results they describe below for far less cost! I mean, private therapy has never been cheap, but Jesus! $600 an hour? Ha!

Whether you are rich or not, please don’t go thinking that the quality of hypnotherapy will be far superior if you pay silly money for it. Let’s keep it real.
