Help With a Drinking Problem

Monday, December 3rd, 2012

“How can I stop drinking too much?”

Hypnotherapy is the quickest and easiest way to get out of difficulty with alcohol. Cravings for alcohol can be shut down with hypnosis and the habit either halted completely or changed. There is no other way to do this in a single event, it can only be done by an expert in a hypnotherapy session. Stopping altogether is one option, cutting out the excess is another and taking a break from alcohol is also a popular choice, after which we re-introduce it without the excess. Some people require another session later to maintain their success, some do not.

Some people do want to stop drinking completely. Not everyone does. This way, you have a choice.

Does that sound all right for you? Just call me (Chris) on 0161-474-8120 during office hours or text/call any time, any day on 07748 838 644.

The Elimination of Work Stress

Tuesday, August 28th, 2012

In my work as a therapist, I meet a lot of people and although work-related stress problems can affect anyone, there are certain professions and occupations that seem to be particularly hard on the nerves. Social work, the police, education and the NHS immediately spring to mind and the number of working days lost to these employers must be huge.

A great deal of this can be avoided with a little bit of relaxing therapy. Prevention is better than cure, and hypnotherapy is the fastest and most efficient way to eliminate residual stress BEFORE it causes illness and time off, or early retirement due to ill health.

Most employers do not know this, but they do know that stress can build up to the point where good personnel leave, or crack under the strain but because the employer doesn’t know what to do about it, the issue is swept under the carpet until it becomes a crisis or a direct loss to their business. Employers can also be legally liable for their employees’ stress-related illnesses.

Don’t do what “most employers” do – which is nothing, until it is too late, then they curse their luck. The really smart employers save themselves a small fortune by sending their stressed-out staff members here to Central Hypnotherapy in Stockport, and they are truly astonished by the results. Even a single hypnosis session with Stress Management Specialist Chris Holmes can make a massive difference.

A happy workforce is a productive workforce. You know it makes sense.

The Dull Predictability of The Drug Habit

Wednesday, August 8th, 2012

More and more people are coming to Central Hypnotherapy to get rid of their cocaine habit, or their drinking habit, or ketamine, cannabis or crack habit. I specialise in these issues, and word gets around.

Not everyone wants to stop using, obviously. And it is not my business to persuade them.

But there comes a point in any drug habit when there is no longer much pleasure in it at all, and it is really just mindless repetition of what you always do. It becomes dull, unrewarding, expensive, exhausting and not much fun at all. Most users, at that point, would rather be a non-user, especially if there was an easy way to change it.

There is. But this brings me to a couple of common myths about hypnotherapy, which I would like to dispel here and now:

1) “You have to believe in hypnosis for it to work.” RUBBISH! Most of my clients are astonished to find that it works.

2) “If you’ve had hypnotherapy before, it won’t work again.” RUBBISH! Relapses are easy to fix.

3) “You’ve got to really want to quit, or it won’t work.” WHO MAKES THIS STUFF UP? It is quite normal to have mixed feelings about quitting smoking, drinking or any drug. As long as you have NO SERIOUS OBJECTION to being free of the habit after the session, that’s enough. You can leave the rest to me.

How Do You Go To Sleep?

Wednesday, August 8th, 2012

If you ask anyone: “How do you go to sleep?” they will probably tell you the things they do before they go to sleep.

“Oh, I switch everything off, check the doors are locked, get ready for bed, clean my teeth, climb into bed and read for a bit… then I go to sleep.”

Yes, but HOW? How do you actually do that?

“I, er… I don’t know. I just lie there for a bit, until I drift off.”

Or as one client put it: “I sort of pretend to be asleep until I am”!

All well and good, so long as that happens. But what do you do if it doesn’t? If you go to your doctor with sleep problems, they’ll give you pills. But the problem with that is, either they don’t work, in which case they’re useless, or they do work, in which case how do you ever get off them? Most people don’t want to take pills for insomnia the rest of their lives, they want to be normal.

Hypnotherapy is the natural solution because there is a link between the sleep cycle and the Subconscious mind. Over the last decade I have helped many people to get back to a regular sleep cycle with the help of hypnosis and it usually only takes one session.

How do I stop eating chocolate?

Monday, July 23rd, 2012

“How can I stop eating chocolate?” Here’s Jane’s reply to that!

Hi Chris,
Hope you are well?

I think I may have generated some more business for you! I was in a cafe in Lymm on Saturday and was talking to the owner (not sure of her name) about you and how I hadn’t eaten chocolate for 6-weeks etc. She was fascinated (as were all the other staff members) about what I was saying. She took down your details and said she would contact you this week. I remember her saying one of her weaknesses was wine.

Being Easter I decided to buy myself an Easter egg. I ate half, thoroughly enjoyed it, put the other half in the fridge for another evening. As I lay in bed that night thinking about the other half of the egg in the fridge, I thought I don’t actually want it, I enjoyed what I ate but I really don’t want any more so I brought the remainder into work for my colleague. Now, previously I would have eaten the whole egg in one sitting!!

I am not due to weigh myself until a week on Saturday (only weigh myself once a month) so I don’t know how much more weight I have lost but can definitely feel that I have.

Also, Carol and Fallon loved you, thought you were absolutely brilliant. They too are getting on great and losing weight.

Kind regards
Jane

Three out of three – that just shows the consistency of the Central Hypnotherapy method, and hypnotherapist Chris Holmes’ expertise and experience in this area.

“No cravings, no withdrawals, no over-eating…”

Monday, July 23rd, 2012

This is what we aim for every time: no cravings, no withdrawal, no over-eating or weight gain. As standard.

“Hi Chris

You said to give you feedback and to let you know how I was getting on… It has been 4 days and 6 hours since my last cigarette! For the first few of days at every trigger point I thought about it – when I left your office, walking down the stairs I thought about it – the main thing I suppose is I don’t want one, the thought is more I would of/could of/ had a cigarette then/now. But I’ve no cravings, no withdrawals, no over eating and as far as I am aware no further habits forming in its place. And with each day the number of times I’ve thought about it are reducing.

Charlotte”

There is a world of difference between thinking about smoking – which I naturally do every day, I’m a therapist specialising in the subject – and wanting to smoke or feeling tempted to smoke. Hypnotherapy doesn’t stop you thinking, it stops you wanting one because it shuts down the cravings and the habit simultaneously. The Central Hypnotherapy method also ensures that there is no weight gain and – as Charlotte confirms – no new habits replacing the smoking one. No other therapy can do that in a single session – only hypnotherapy.

If you would like to be smoke-free like Charlotte, why not call me (Chris) on:
Office: 0161-474-8120 Monday-Friday 8.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m., or call/text 07748 838 644 any day, any time.

Helen’s Success

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

OCD comes in many forms, and in fact that label is a bit of a misunderstanding. All Compulsive Habits are organised and controlled by the almighty Subconscious mind, and so they can be simply mindless repetition or they can be driven by the imagination. The imagination knows no bounds, so OCD behaviours are often illogical and therefore baffling to that person’s own conscious mind, as this opening enquiry from Helen shows:

“Hello,

I am coming to the end of my tether with my obssessive compulsive disorder or bad habit, as one psychologist called it. I suffer with skin picking. I have been doing it since the age of 19 after I broke up with my first boyfriend who was mentally abusive… I’ve tried acupuncture, homeopathic remedies, tibetan yoga, sa ta na ma chanting, breath of fire, bastrika, self hypnosis, visual coding displacement therapy, emotional freedom therapy and fasting. I did manage to stop for five days through mental power, but I “fell off the wagon” after a week.

This self sabotage is really getting me down since I have so many writing goals, but I cannot meet them through this underlying anxiety that I am not good enough and I do not deserve success. However, I’m just guessing it may be that… I have visited my doctor and asked for CBT, but it took eight weeks to get my first consultation, and I don’t think she really understood my experience…

In the end through psychological therapies with the NHS, I was put on “basic therapies” which is just talking about anxiety and how it affects the mind and behaviour. This is all fine and dandy, however it doesn’t address the subconscious issue. I am no longer attending since speaking with someone who has no experience of dealing with OCD is no use to me.

I sincerely hope you can help me. I do not trust a lot of alternative health practitioners, but I sensed honesty and a genuine want to help people from your website. I hope you do not take offence, I try to use my instincts to get me through life.

Helen”

We did a single session of hypnotherapy, and the next message I got was this:

“Hi Chris

I thought I would wait a few days before giving feedback. Well this is my fifth day without skin picking. I sometimes get a strong urge but it disappears equally fast. It’s finally nice to let my skin heal and give it the nurturing it deserves. The mental focus to finish my book has been great. I’m also suffering with less anxiety in the gut.

Thanks so much for your help. I will recommend you to anyone who wants to undergo Hypnotherapy.

Helen”

With long-established habits like this one – with a strong emotional component – it is quite possible we will need to do another session on this at some point… if so, I’ll let you know how it goes! Helen has given her permission for me to reproduce her messages here, and use her real name. (I never do that without written permission.)

How Does It Work?

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

Our celebrated one-session stop smoking method simply shuts down cravings completely. If you try to quit any other way, you are trying to IGNORE cravings, but hypnotherapy wipes them out so you walk out of the session a non-smoker. This is just a return to normal: we were all born non-smokers in the first place. There is no weight-gain because that is usually caused by attempts to feed cravings away. This method shuts them down, so you don’t feel as if you are missing something.

We also challenge the beliefs that support the habit: the idea it’s a pleasure, the idea it “helps you deal with stress”. Only hypnosis does this at both conscious and Subconscious levels at the same time. This method also ensures that other people smoking will not bother you in any way: after the session you will even find it easy to chat to someone else while they are smoking, without finding the smoke appealing OR annoying.

The truth is, our first experience of tobacco was sickening and nauseating – in fact we all had to work at that to get past it, and we only did it to be part of the gang, or to be all grown up. We did not intend to make it a lifelong commitment, and we certainly didn’t mean to do ourselves any real harm.

I can make sure it doesn’t. All you would have to do is call me at Central Hypnotherapy on 0161-474 8120 (Office Hours) Mobile: 07748 838 644 (any time, including evenings & weekends) and make an appointment, then turn up on the day. You can leave the rest to me!

How do I stop drinking?

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

“How can I stop drinking alcohol?” is a question I hear all the time. Ask Catherine!

Catherine was feeling tired and toxic from her drinking habit, so she popped in to Central Hypnotherapy for a hypnosis session to shut down the habit and the usual cravings, which are actually just compulsive urges from the Subconscious mind. As it turned out, this was put to the test sooner than she expected, as her email below explains:

“Morning Chris! Thanks for Saturday, the session was wonderful. My hubbie had
forgotten to tell me we were going to a surprise party that evening but it
didn’t bother me one bit! Orange juice all night and I had a great time!
Again I feel like I have got my life back and I feel so happy! Will keep you
posted with my ongoing progress,
Catherine”

She said “again” because she has been to see me before about drinking – about a year ago – but recently started drinking again. Some do, some don’t… but it’s not a problem, we just shut it down again! Hypnotherapy does not “wear off” by the way, it’s just that a habit is a learned routine, and if the person chooses to drink again, it automatically re-starts, cravings and all. I know exactly how to fix that – and also how to reduce alcohol intake, for those clients who don’t want to stop altogether, they just want to cut out the excess.

Fear of water eliminated, 1 session

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

Tony sent this email in yesterday:

“Hello Chris, its Tony ********, I came to see you 3 or 4 weeks ago with a problem concerning a fear of water and swimming in general. Up to now I’ve had 9 half-hour swimming lessons, and I must say I am doing things in the water I could not do before I came to see you! Hopefully if I have the same amount of lessons again I will be able to swim! If that’s the case I owe you a very big thank you.”

This reminds me of the very first phobia case I did eleven years ago, also a fear of water, which I got rid of in three sessions – not bad for a beginner! Nowadays I can shift just about any phobia in just one two-hour session.
