When your client describes the results of a single hypnotherapy session as "phenomenal" and "life changing", it's obviously not time to retire just yet! Joe wanted to lose weight, but perhaps more importantly, to stop feeling like his eating and drinking was out of control. In truth, it never is: it is only outside your conscious control... but then it always was.
Some of our behaviour can become habitual when it was originally voluntary, such as smoking or drinking alcohol. At first those activities are under conscious control - you can take it or leave it - but the Subconscious may recognise a pattern, and then take over the running of those behaviours, turning them into compulsive habits in the process.
Some of our behaviour has been under Subconscious control from birth, such as breathing and consuming food. The Subconscious controls appetite, and creates feelings of hunger, either through the craving system or by creating pleasure-seeking feelings that drive the urge to consume anything. Without those feelings, there is little or no interest in food or drink.
Your conscious mind has learned that some foods are really good for you, but others should be avoided because they are unhealthy or fattening. If you ever have to resist an urge to eat them anyway, it is because your Subconscious does not know anything about that. This is why my clients tell me, before the hypnotherapy: "I know what I SHOULD be doing... but I keep doing THIS!"
Yes: your conscious mind knows. Somebody better tell your Subconscious, or you'll keep doing that.
Now normally I deal with alcohol in one session, and food in another but this time I combined the two. This was the feedback from Joe:
"I just wanted to pass on that the result from our session, to help with diet and drinking, have been nothing short of phenomenal! The cravings for both have been stopped dead in their tracks and I feel, honestly, like I can now think clearly and get my life together for the first time in a long time! Thank you so much for your help. I really do think this has been life changing! Please do feel free to use any of this feedback publicly if you wish to. Thanks again, Joe"
Just to be clear, the cravings to drink alcohol disappeared altogether but not the impulse to eat food! We just got rid of the impulse to eat cake, chocolate, fast food and fizzy drinks, that sort of thing. Yes, with hypnosis we can be that specific: if we ask nicely and explain our reasons clearly, we can ask the Subconscious to remove the urge to eat Fox's Glacier Mints and it will do precisely that... or a whole range of things, and it will shut down the lot. Don't worry if you don't want to stop drinking altogether because with hypnotherapy you have a choice: to quit altogether, or just cut down. Works just as well either way! more about this
